YouTube is testing an AI-powered age verification system. The company plans to use machine learning to analyze user behavior, such as search history and video preferences, to determine if an account belongs to a teen. If identified as a teen account, YouTube will disable personalized ads, activate digital wellbeing tools, and implement other safety measures. This initiative builds upon YouTube's existing protections for younger users, including supervised teen accounts introduced in 2021. The AI trial will initially roll out to a subset of US users before wider implementation.
