New research indicates that the deformed wing virus (DWV) and sacbrood virus (SBV) significantly affect honeybee flight. Previously considered asymptomatic in adult bees, these viruses have now been shown to cause abnormal flight patterns: DWV slows bees down, while SBV makes them fly faster. These altered flight patterns could impair foraging efficiency, navigation, and overall colony health, raising concerns about the impact of these viruses on bee populations and pollination services.
