Satellite imagery has revealed a significant increase in rare earth mining operations within rebel-controlled areas of Myanmar, bordering China and Thailand. The images reportedly show 26 mines near China and two near Thailand. Rare earth elements are crucial components in various technologies, including electronics and renewable energy. The expansion of mining activities in these regions raises concerns about environmental impacts, labor practices, and potential geopolitical implications, especially regarding control over these strategic resources.
