Rivian has filed a lawsuit against the Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles over the state's partial ban on direct car sales, according to The Verge. Rivian argues the ban restricts competition, limits consumer choice, and increases costs. The lawsuit highlights an exception in the law that favors Tesla, allowing them to sell directly to consumers while Rivian is prohibited. Ohio law generally requires the DMV to deny dealership licenses to manufacturers, their parent companies, subsidiaries, or affiliated entities, maintaining the traditional dealership model, but Tesla received a carveout in 2014.
