Astronomers have successfully tested a novel interstellar navigation technique using images from the New Horizons probe. By analyzing the apparent shift in star positions relative to the probe's location, scientists were able to accurately determine New Horizons' position within the galaxy. This marks the first successful demonstration of using parallax for interstellar navigation. The method holds significant promise for future deep-space missions, offering a way to independently verify spacecraft location and trajectory without relying solely on Earth-based tracking.
