Google has relaunched its AI-powered Ask Photos feature in the US after addressing initial performance issues. The rollout was paused in early June due to latency and interface concerns. The updated version combines traditional Google Photos search with the AI capabilities of Gemini models to improve speed, particularly for basic searches like 'dogs' or 'people.' Simple image recognition-based results are now displayed quickly, followed by more complex Gemini-generated responses. Ask Photos, announced at Google I/O 2024, allows users to search their Google Photos library using natural language queries and presents results in a chat-like format.
