The Netherlands has approved its first legal e-scooter, the Selana Alpha, for use on public roads and bike lanes. Developed by the startup Selana, the scooter received approval from the national transport authority (RDW) and now sports a blue license plate, classifying it as a light motor vehicle. This marks a notable shift in the Netherlands' previously strict regulations regarding micromobility. The Selana Alpha, priced at €1,900, represents the culmination of a lengthy regulatory process for Selana's co-founders, Chingiskhan Kazakhstan and Max Schalow, in their effort to legalize their scooter.
