Finnish startup Kuva Space is collaborating with the Finnish Environmental Institute (Skye) to monitor toxic algae blooms in Finland's waters using a new AI-powered satellite. Kuva Space's hyperspectral sensors can analyze a broader light spectrum than conventional sensors, enabling them to detect the spectral signatures of cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae. These organisms, which can be harmful in high concentrations, are difficult to distinguish visually. The satellite's ability to remotely identify and track these blooms will aid in protecting public health and the environment by providing critical data for water management and mitigation efforts.
