AOL is officially ending its dial-up internet service on September 30th, signaling the close of a significant chapter in internet history. The announcement, initially reported by PC Gamer, was made via AOL's help pages. Along with the dial-up service, the AOL Dialer software and AOL Shield browser will also be discontinued. While surprising to many, AOL's dial-up service still served a few thousand users, particularly in rural areas where it provided an affordable internet option. However, this number is a stark contrast to the tens of millions of users AOL boasted during its peak.
