Amazon is restructuring its Wondery podcast studio, splitting it up just four years after acquiring it. The move will result in approximately 110 employee layoffs, and Wondery CEO Jen Sargent will be departing. Wondery will continue to produce podcasts, but its narrative-driven studio responsible for shows like 'Dr. Death' and 'Business Wars' will be integrated into Amazon's Audible team. Celebrity-hosted podcasts, including 'New Heights' and 'Armchair Expert,' will be consolidated into a new 'creator services' team focused on securing large sponsorships.
