President Trump signed an executive order suspending the de minimis exemption, which allows duty-free entry for packages valued under $800. This affects all countries, expanding a previous ban on goods from China and Hong Kong. Effective August 29th, international postal system shipments will face either a flat tariff rate or a specific duty of $80-$200 per item for six months. Afterward, all duties will be calculated ad valorem. The White House argues this increases scrutiny on packages.
