The National Vulnerability Database (NVD), a US-backed resource managed by NIST, is facing a significant backlog of over 25,000 unaddressed vulnerabilities. This backlog, reported by MIT Technology Review, is approximately ten times larger than the previous high in 2017. NIST is now urgently hiring contractors to address the issue. The NVD plays a crucial role in identifying and cataloging software vulnerabilities, impacting the security of countless digital systems relied upon for communication, commerce, and critical infrastructure.
